Robert Bowling
Teacher/ Writer / Historian/ Police Officer

About Me

Career and Education
I am a native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina and currently live in Fishers, Indiana with my wife and three boys.  I began my career with the Durham (NC) Police Department in 2002. After moving to Indiana, I became an officer with the Fishers Police Department in 2008.

During my time in law enforcement, I have served in a variety of roles to include Field Training Officer, Evidence Technician, Honor Guard Coordinator, School Resource Officer, Hostage Negotiator, Traffic Crash Reconstructionist, and as a member of the Crisis Intervention Stress Management Team (CISM). I retired from law enforcement in 2020 and began my second career teaching Criminal Justice to high school students.

I earned a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice (Summa Cum Laude) from East Carolina University, a Master's degree in Public Administration from Indiana State University, and I am currently pursuing a doctorate in Criminal Justice from Liberty University.
It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed."    Theodore Roosevelt

Love of History

As the first historian and curator of the Fishers Police Department, I educated the citizens of Fishers on the history of the police department through social media and citizen interactions. In partnership with the Fishers Fire Department, we hosted the historical reenactment of the Battle of Mudsock.

As a retired law enforcement officer, I continue to honor fallen officers as an historical researcher for Officer Down Memorial Page. My mission is to find officers who have been killed in the line of duty that history forgot. I am a contributing writer for Officer Magazine and Officer. com. I share my passion for law enforcement history through these forums and continue to honor fallen officers through this magazine, both in print and online.

I published my first book, Wicked Fishers, in 2021, which explores the salacious side of the history of Fishers, Indiana. I am a contributing author for an upcoming book, scheduled to be published in late 2022, celebrating Hamilton County, Indiana's Bicentennial.
